Members of the Empowerment Congress Central were delighted to participate in the Ground Breaking for a Bridge Home in our community on April 8, 2019. The home is to house 100 men, women and their pets temporarily and provide 24 x 7 services to get them permanently housed. The facility will feature modular construction and is expected to be ready June 2019.
It will be located on a lot that has been a little-used dog park at 5965 South St. Andrews Place across from a school bus depot and close to the train tracks. ECCANDC Outreach Chair Ellen Pace said, “We are looking forward to helping our homeless neighbors get off the streets.” This location is good because of its proximity to the train tracks, which have attracted a lot of homeless encampments which have been repeatedly cleaned up. The bus depot mentioned there may be an opportunity to provide employment for some program participants.
ECCANDC Members in attendance included Secretary Leonard Delpit, Outreach Chair Ellen Pace, and Area 1 Representative Reverend Campbell. Empowerment Congress Southwest was also present with President Brent Page and Member Tyron Turner.
